Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #416

I feel squeezed between practising Islam and protecting my non-Muslim family's feelings. What should I do?

You do not have to choose between faith and love for your family; Islam tells you to hold on to both at once. Settle in your heart that belief and worship cannot be compromised, but everything outside that can be embraced with gentleness. Plan ahead how you will handle recurring situations, such as festivals or dinners, so you are not caught off guard in the moment. Share this pressure with a Muslim friend or a counsellor who understands. Be compassionate with yourself; balancing these two worlds really is challenging at first. With time and wisdom, it becomes easier. See counselling.
