Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #89

I regretted it the moment I pronounced talaq on my wife. What should I do now?

Admit your mistake, seek Allah's forgiveness (istighfar), and do not let shame stop you from putting things right in a lawful way. The pronouncement cannot be withdrawn with words like ‘I didn't mean it’; it must be brought to the Syariah Court for confirmation. If it is a first or second revocable talaq (talak raj'i) and your wife is still in her iddah, the door to reconciliation (rujuk) is still open. But rujuk is not just words. Apologise to your wife sincerely, listen to how she feels, and show real change. Identify what triggered the pronouncement, whether anger, stress or an old problem, and get help to manage it. Read more on the iddah and rujuk page.
