Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #92

My husband wants to divorce me, but I still want to save our marriage. What can I do?

You can make an effort and invite your husband to try the path of reconciliation, even though the final decision is not entirely in your hands. Start by asking what is really making him want to separate, and listen without interrupting. Then suggest a clear trial period, for example a few months with joint counselling sessions. Allah says: “reconciliation is better” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:128). If the case has already been filed, sulh and counselling sessions at the Syariah Court also give room to make up. At the same time, keep your dignity: endless pleading rarely changes a heart, whereas maturity often makes an impression. Refer to the counselling page.
