Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #88

How should we agree on how to make big decisions before marriage?

Agree early that big decisions are made by discussing them, so neither side feels sidelined when important matters arise. Although the husband holds the responsibility of leadership, good leadership consults; it does not command at will. Allah praises the believers whose “affairs are decided by mutual consultation among them” (Surah asy-Syura 42:38). Discuss examples: how to choose where to live, manage large sums of money, or deal with family interference. Agree that you will listen to each other before deciding. The habit of discussing built before marriage makes decisions after marriage calmer and fairer. See rights of husband and wife.
