🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #85

How do I tell mature love from fantasy before deciding to marry?

Mature love sees the other person as they are, flaws and all, while fantasy only loves an imagined picture. Ask yourself: do I know their true character when things are hard and when they are angry, or only their sweet side? Real love withstands being tested by discussions about money, family and responsibility, not only blossoming when you are alone together. Allah has placed between spouses “love and mercy” (Surah ar-Rum 30:21), and that grows from reality, not daydreams. Give it time, involve your families, and pray istikharah. A decision made with open eyes is stronger than one made while intoxicated by feelings. See criteria for choosing a spouse.
