🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #237

How do we nurture contentment in a household that lives modestly?

Contentment makes a modest home feel spacious, while greed makes even a luxurious one feel cramped. Allah praises those who, when they spend, “are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a balance between the two” (Surah al-Furqan 25:67). Get into the habit of naming the blessings you have together: health, children, a roof over your heads and love. Stop comparing your life with other people's displays of luxury. Set reasonable financial goals and work towards them together, without going into debt to show off. A couple who are grateful together are happier than one that is rich but always feels short. Start tonight by naming three blessings together. See family finances.
