How do we celebrate a baby's birth in an Islamic way without excess or debt?

The most meaningful celebration of a birth is gratitude for the blessing and fulfilling the sunnah, not a lavish event that becomes a burden. The sunnah of welcoming a baby includes calling the azan, shaving the hair and the aqiqah for those who can afford it; consult the religious office for the procedure. Allah does not love waste: “eat and drink, but do not be excessive” (Surah al-A'raf 7:31). A simple invitation and a modest meal are enough to share the joy. Avoid going into debt or spending big for the sake of appearances or social media. Make gratitude and prayer for the baby the heart of the celebration, not mere festivity. See children.
