Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #219

We live in a large multi-faith extended family. How do we safeguard our children's tauhid?

The key to safeguarding children's tauhid in a multi-faith environment is a strong foundation of faith at home, not shutting them away from relatives. Teach them to know Allah from a young age through prayer, du'a and age-appropriate stories. Luqman's advice is an example: “O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah: for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing” (Surah Luqman 31:13). Explain differences in practice calmly when your child asks, not by frightening him. Strengthen their Muslim identity through community and religious classes. With firm roots, children can love their relatives without being swayed. See educating the family.
