Q&A › Raising children (tarbiyah)

🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #217

Our children are more fluent in the local language and are starting to forget our language and roots. What should we do?

Language and identity are roots that connect children to their family and religion, so they should be kept alive with love, not force. Keep the mother tongue alive at home through daily conversation, stories and songs, not only corrections when they get it wrong. Connect them with grandparents and relatives through calls so that the language has meaning. Tell family stories and stories of where you come from with pride so that they value their identity. Balance this by respecting the local language they need for daily life. Praise every small effort they make. See educating the family.
