Q&A › Preparation & choosing a spouse

🧭 Preparation & choosing a spouse · #68

I want to practise polygyny as soon as possible. Is it wrong to rush without much preparation?

A decision that changes the lives of several people at once should not be made in a hurry without honest preparation. Rushing often hides the pull of desire or pressure, and turns a blind eye to the effect on your wife and children. Take time to assess your financial means, your emotional readiness to be just, and the effect on your existing family. Pray istikharah and talk with knowledgeable people who are honest, not only those who back what you want. Never plan a secret or unregistered marriage to speed things up; that wrongs the rights of everyone involved. Careful preparation protects you and those you are responsible for.
