How can savings for a child's education be planned from an early age?
Start early with a small, regular amount, in a Shariah-compliant account kept separate from household spending money.
Providing for a child's future is part of the trust of guardianship (Sahih al-Bukhari 893), and leaving one's heirs well off is better than leaving them begging (Sahih al-Bukhari 1295). Options in Malaysia include the National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) run by PTPTN, a Shariah-compliant savings or investment account in the child's name, and Tabung Haji. Check each scheme's current terms, including tax relief. Invite grandparents to contribute to the education account instead of buying expensive gifts, and put part of the child's Raya money in it (with the child's knowledge). In polygamy, plan savings fairly for the children of each wife. A child's savings are a trust; do not use them for other needs unless truly desperate. See Family finances.
