Q&A › Family finances

💰 Family finances · #115

Can we borrow money from my spouse's family, and how do we protect the relationship?

Borrowing from family is allowed, but handle it clearly so that it does not damage the relationship or anyone's dignity. Money mixed with feelings easily leads to misunderstandings. Agree openly on the amount, the purpose and how it will be repaid, and write it down clearly even with your own family. Keep your repayment promises on time, because delaying payment when you are able to pay is a wrong that erodes trust. Do not let this loan become a door for others to interfere in your household. If possible, look for other options first before borrowing from family, to keep the peace. Appreciate their help and thank them for it. See family finances.
