💰 Family finances · #105

How can we tell real needs from wants when we spend?

Needs are what your life truly depends on, while wants are what merely add comfort or appearance. Before buying, ask: would our life suffer without it, or would we just be less comfortable? Wait a few days before big purchases so the excitement fades and your mind is clear. List last month's spending and identify which were wants; the total is often surprising. This does not mean forbidding all enjoyment, but choosing consciously. Discuss it as a couple so decisions are made together. Money spent consciously brings more peace than money spent on impulse.
