Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #70

My heart is full of resentment towards my ex-spouse since the divorce. How do I let it go?

Forgiving your ex-spouse does not mean excusing the wrong, but freeing your own heart from a poisonous burden. Resentment held for a long time harms you more than it harms him. Allah says about those who have been wronged: “and let them forgive and overlook” (Surah an-Nur 24:22). You do not have to pretend everything is fine; it is enough to let go of the wish to retaliate. Shift your focus to rebuilding your life and caring for your children. Pray for calm, and if the wound is too deep, a counsellor can help you work through it. A forgiving heart sleeps more soundly. See counselling.
