Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #143

As a man, I am ashamed to show sadness after divorce. How should I deal with it?

Men grieve too, and admitting sadness is the first step towards healing, not a sign of weakness. Many men bottle up their feelings, and it then comes out as anger, overwork or withdrawal. Even the Prophet Ya'qub complained to his Lord: “Indeed, I only complain of my distress and my sorrow to Allah” (Surah Yusuf 12:86). Choose a trusted friend or older brother to talk to honestly. Look after your body by exercising, eating well and sleeping enough. If you struggle to function for several weeks, or have thoughts of harming yourself, call the police on 999 if in danger and Talian Kasih 15999 for support, and get help from a doctor.
