Q&A › Polygyny: rulings & justice

⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #92

I can afford it financially, but I doubt I can be fair in feelings and time. What should I do?

Justice in polygyny is not only about money; it covers the rota (turn of nights), time and equal treatment. Many can provide maintenance but fail to divide their heart and time, and one wife ends up neglected. Allah warns: “so do not incline wholly (to the one you love) and leave the other as if suspended” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:129). If you assess yourself honestly and find that your time and attention are not enough for two families, that is a strong reason not to go ahead. Financial ability alone does not qualify you; all-round justice is the condition. See conditions of polygyny.
