⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #98

My family is pressing me to take another wife even though I feel I am not yet able. What should I do?

The decision to take another wife is your responsibility before Allah, not that of the people pressing you, who will not bear the consequences. Listen to their views respectfully, but the measure is your own ability and fairness, not other people's wishes. Explain calmly that you are not ready financially or in terms of fairness, and that forcing it would only wrong the family. If the pressure continues, set kind boundaries and ask for support from fair-minded people of knowledge. Do not make a decision this big to please others or avoid criticism. It is you who will be questioned about that fairness, not them. See critical wisdom.
