🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #19
What is the ruling on using coarse language at home, even when it is not directed at one's spouse?
The tongue inside the home is not exempt from the rules governing the tongue outside it.
The Prophet ﷺ said: whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, let him speak good or remain silent. Al-Hujurat 49:11 forbids disparagement and offensive nicknames. In a home with children, those words also become lessons — they learn the vocabulary of anger from the adults around them. If it has become a habit, replace it with a phrase of your own choosing to say when angry.
