🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #14
Why is gentleness, rather than sternness, described as the foundation of the home?
Because it is stated to be a quality Allah loves in all matters.
When Aishah r.a. replied harshly to people who had insulted the Prophet ﷺ, he corrected her: be gentle and calm, for Allah loves gentleness in all matters — and he showed that he himself had already answered with a brief word. An-Nahl 16:90 states that Allah commands justice, excellence and giving to relatives. Firmness has its place in matters of rights and danger; what has no basis is making harshness the style of the home.
