🕊️ Conflict & resolution · #205

Is it better for us to attend counselling together or to see a counsellor separately first?

Both approaches have their place, and the counsellor will usually suggest the order that suits your situation. Joint sessions help you both learn to communicate and resolve issues in front of someone who takes no sides. Separate sessions give room to speak honestly and understand yourself before facing things together. Some counsellors start with separate sessions, then bring the couple together. If one of you is not yet ready to meet together, start separately first. What matters is that both of you are eventually involved, because relationship problems are hard to fix from one side alone. Follow the suggestion of the counsellor who assesses your situation. See counselling.
