🏛️ Polygyny: the law · #103
I am a divorcee or widow about to become a second wife. What documents do I need to prepare?
Besides the usual marriage documents, you need proof that your previous marriage ended lawfully and that your iddah (waiting period) has ended. Prepare your divorce certificate or court order, or the death certificate if your husband died. The religious affairs office will also ask for your identity card, pre-marriage course certificate, the results of the required health screening, and the wali's consent; a previously married woman still needs a wali for the akad. Also make sure your future husband has obtained polygyny permission, because without it your marriage application should not be processed. If you have children from your previous marriage, discuss who will bear their maintenance. See maintenance for a divorcee's children.
