Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #157

My husband is fair in the rota and maintenance, but my heart is still not satisfied. What is wrong?

Outward fairness fulfils rights, but the human heart longs for something that cannot be divided equally, namely the inclination of feelings. Allah says: “And you will never be able to be just between your wives, however much you desire it” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:129). So a husband is required to be fair in what he is able to control, such as time and maintenance (nafkah), not in love, which is beyond his control. Stop measuring your husband's love through the lens of competition, and build your own closeness with him in the time you have. Fill your heart with your relationship with Allah, family and a purpose in life so that it does not depend entirely on your husband. If dissatisfaction becomes a prolonged suffering, counselling can help you understand yourself. See mental health.
