🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #226

My in-laws interfere in the way we raise our children. What should we do?

Establish that decisions about raising the children belong to the two of you as parents, while respecting the experience of your elders. Listen to their advice and take what is good, but do not feel forced to accept all of it. Agree with your spouse on the main rules so you are united in front of the family. Say politely that you appreciate their help but will make the final decisions. Avoid letting the children be used in adult disputes. Ask your spouse to deal with their own family kindly. Parents who agree protect their children from confusion. See educating the family.
