🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #350

As head of the family, how do I make sure I am fair between my children?

Fairness between children is part of the trust of leadership, and children are very sensitive to favouritism. The Prophet ﷺ said: “Be conscious of Allah and act justly among your children” (Sahih al-Bukhari 2587). Fair does not necessarily mean equal in every matter, but giving each child what they need without wronging the others, especially in gifts and attention. Avoid comparing one child with another or making one an obvious favourite. Spend dedicated time with each child. When you get it wrong, put it right and apologise. Fairness that children can feel builds love between siblings and respect for you. See educating the family.
