Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #76

I am a widow still grieving, yet I must keep caring for my children. How do I manage both?

You do not have to choose between grieving and caring for your children; allow yourself time alone with your sorrow while still being there for them. Grief that is bottled up completely will surface in other forms, so allow yourself to cry and to miss him. Even the Prophet Yaakub said: “Indeed, I only complain of my distress and my sorrow to Allah” (Surah Yusuf 12:86). At the same time, keep simple routines for the children, because they give them a sense of safety. Ask someone to take over for a while on heavy days. If grief paralyses you for weeks, see a counsellor. See widow.
