Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #154

My mistakes caused our divorce. How do I repent and repair what I still can?

Repentance begins with admitting the wrong without excuses, then repairing what is still within your power, especially your relationship with the children. Ask Allah's forgiveness sincerely and resolve not to repeat it. If appropriate, apologise to your ex-spouse briefly and sincerely, without demanding that they forgive you or come back. Fulfil all overdue rights, such as child maintenance, mut'ah or debts, because that is part of repentance. Be a mother or father who is consistently present in your children's lives. For deep-rooted habits, such as addiction or a hot temper, get professional help. See counselling.
