Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #65

Is it true that pregnant mothers should read particular surahs such as Yusuf or Maryam so the baby will be beautiful or pious?

There is no authentic hadith assigning particular surahs to pregnant mothers or promising a baby's looks; but reading the Quran, remembering Allah and praying during pregnancy is very good and calming.
The Quran is a healing and a mercy for believers (al-Isra' 17:82), and hearts find rest in the remembrance of Allah (ar-Raʿd 13:28). Reading Surah Yusuf or Maryam for their stories and lessons is good, but linking them to a specific promise such as a handsome or beautiful baby has no basis in the texts. More important are the parents' prayers for the child (Sunan Abu Dawud 1536), good nutrition, regular health checks and a calm home. Also avoid taboos that harm the mother's health.
