Q&A › Worship in the home

🕌 Worship in the home · #118

My pregnancy test results are worrying. How do I balance effort and trust in Allah (tawakal)?

Islam combines earnest effort with surrendering the heart to Allah; the two do not conflict. On the side of effort, follow your doctor's advice, attend follow-up check-ups, and take the recommended steps to care for mother and baby. On the side of the heart, increase your supplication and leave the final outcome to Allah, because “in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (Surah ar-Ra'd 13:28). Avoid reading too many frightening stories that add to your anxiety. Share your worries with your husband so that the two of you carry them together. Doing your utmost and then surrendering is the heart of tawakal, not surrendering without doing anything. See du'a & prayer.
