Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #179

My stepchild makes up untrue stories about me to his or her father. What should I do?

Do not panic or respond in anger; handle this calmly together with your husband as a team. Ask your husband to hear both sides and look into it before believing any story. Allah teaches: “if there comes to you a wicked person with news, then verify it” (Surah al-Hujurat 49:6). Understand that children sometimes make up stories out of jealousy, fear of losing their father, or a wish for attention. Keep being kind and consistent so the accusations collapse on their own. Avoid calling the child a liar in front of others or retaliating with counter-stories. If the situation drags on, get help from a family counsellor. See communication & emotions.
