Q&A › Existing wife & prospective wife

🤝 Existing wife & prospective wife · #173

My child feels like an outsider at the other house when visiting during the Raya season. What should I do?

Help your child feel accepted by preparing them before the visit and asking the other household to welcome them warmly. Talk with your husband, and if suitable with your co-wife, so there is space, food and attention that make your child feel welcome, not just dropping in. Encourage your child to bring something to share, such as cakes or a game, so they have a role and don't feel awkward. Introduce them to their siblings there in a relaxed way through shared activities. Avoid showing your own discomfort, because children read their mother's face. With a good welcome, time after time, that sense of being an outsider will fade. See relationships between co-wives.
