Q&A › Rights & responsibilities

🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #237

Is it true that I am still entitled to demand intimacy regardless of whether my spouse is tired or unwell?

The right to intimacy is real, but it is claimed in a good and compassionate way, not regardless of your spouse's condition. Allah commands husbands to “live with them on a footing of kindness and equity” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:19), and kindness means with consideration. A spouse who is tired, ill or stressed deserves to be treated gently, not forced to meet demands when they have no strength. Choose a time that suits you both, and look for closeness that places no burden when one of you is unwell. Giving space today gives birth to deeper love tomorrow. Good intimacy grows from feeling respected, not from pressure. See rights of husband and wife.
