Q&A › Rights & responsibilities

🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #347

I am a housewife and would like to start working or doing business. How do I discuss it with my husband?

The wish to contribute and grow is healthy, and it is best achieved through open discussion, not demands or secrecy. Choose a calm moment and share your aims, whether income, personal fulfilment or helping the family. Listen to your husband's concerns, such as childcare or mixing at the workplace, and find a middle way together. Allah says: “Men shall have a share of what they have earned, and women shall have a share of what they have earned” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:32). Start with something small and manageable, such as a home business, while making sure your trust towards the family is still kept. See rights of husband and wife.
