Q&A › Rights & responsibilities

🏡 Rights & responsibilities · #244

I have lost confidence because of changes in my body and have started avoiding intimacy. How can I overcome this?

Changes in the body are part of life, and they do not lessen your worth or attractiveness in the eyes of a loving spouse. Feeling less confident is common after childbirth, illness or growing older; acknowledge the feeling without punishing yourself. Look after your health and appearance as you are able, not by chasing unrealistic shapes seen on social media. Talk to your spouse about how you feel; usually they do not judge you as harshly as you judge yourself. Your spouse, for their part, has a role in reassuring you with honest compliments. Closeness grows from feeling accepted, not from a perfect appearance. See intimacy etiquette.
