Q&A › Khitbah & engagement

💍 Khitbah & engagement · #82

The family making the enquiry asked personal questions such as salary and health history. Must we answer everything?

Not everything; answer what is reasonable for a decision to marry, and keep very personal matters for a more serious stage. At the enquiry stage, general information such as work, studies and family circumstances is enough. Salary details or medical records are better discussed between the prospective couple when the proposal is close to being accepted. However, an illness or condition that significantly affects a marriage must not be hidden to the end. Give a polite answer, for example: ‘We will share that once both sides are serious.’ See disclosing illness to a prospective spouse.
