Q&A › Khitbah & engagement

💍 Khitbah & engagement · #74

What can I learn from the way my future spouse treats their parents and family?

The way a person treats their parents and siblings is the most honest window into how they will treat you later. The Prophet ﷺ said: “The best of you are those who are best to their families, and I am the best of you to my family” (Jami' at-Tirmidhi 3895). Notice whether they are gentle, responsible and patient with those closest to them, or harsh and quick to neglect. Also see how they talk about past relationships or people who hurt them. Character at home is hard to fake for long. Choose someone of good character, because looks and wealth do not guarantee good treatment. See criteria for choosing a spouse.
