Q&A › Family finances

💰 Family finances · #81

We have just received unexpected money such as a bonus or a gift. How do we use it wisely?

Plan how to use it before it disappears unnoticed, because unexpected money most easily vanishes on things no one remembers. Start by setting aside a portion for charity as a sign of gratitude. Then prioritise paying off debt and topping up the emergency fund before spending on wants. You can also allocate a little for reasonable family enjoyment, so you feel the blessing. Allah praises those who, when they spend, “are neither extravagant nor miserly, but hold a balance between the two” (Surah al-Furqan 25:67). Discuss the division together so that both of you are satisfied. See family finances.
