🕌 Worship in the home · #153

The children are hard to wake for sahur and sulk all morning. How do we make sahur easier?

Sahur becomes easier when the preparation starts the night before, not at the moment you wake the children. Put the children to bed earlier throughout Ramadan, even if the first week is hard. Prepare a simple menu they like, so they have a reason to get up. Wake them gently: switch on a dim light, touch their shoulder and say their name, not shout from the doorway. Let them sit for a moment before eating. The merits of sahur can be told during the day, when they are fresh and willing to listen. For young children just starting to practise, a light sahur is enough; do not make it a battle every morning. See training children to fast.
