How do I teach my children to express their feelings so that they are emotionally healthy?
Children learn to manage feelings when we name emotions and accept them, not when we tell them to be quiet. Set an example by naming your own feelings in a healthy way, such as ‘Daddy is tired today, so Daddy is going to rest for a bit’. Listen without rushing to punish when they are angry or sad. Teach them ways to calm down such as slow breathing and making dua. Avoid shaming them for crying. A home where it is safe to open up builds children who can cope with stress later. If a child is often low or anxious, get professional help. See educating the family.
