🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #57
Is praying for one's spouse in private especially virtuous?
Yes. A prayer for a brother or sister made without their knowledge is promised the prayer of an angel for the one praying, and one's spouse is the closest of all.
In a narration of Muslim, the Prophet ﷺ said that a Muslim's prayer for his brother in his absence is answered; beside him is an angel who, every time he prays for good for his brother, says "amin, and for you the same" (Sahih Muslim, Kitab adh-Dhikr wa ad-Du'a). The Quran teaches the prayer: Our Lord, grant us spouses and offspring who are the comfort of our eyes (al-Furqan 25:74). Praying for one's spouse, especially when one's heart is hurt by them, also softens one's own heart. Pray for their health, their provision, their guidance and whatever they are facing. See Supplication & prayer.
