🕊️ Conflict & resolution · #233

Can I just pray and be patient for my addicted spouse, or do I need to do more?

Prayer and patience are pillars that give strength, but they go hand in hand with real effort, not replace it. Allah says: “in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find rest” (Surah ar-Ra'd 13:28), so make prayer your heart's support throughout this trial. At the same time, encourage your spouse to get treatment, set boundaries, and protect the family. Trusting in Allah (tawakkal) means doing your utmost and then leaving it to Allah, not waiting without acting. Get support from a counsellor and people who understand. Professional treatment is also part of the effort that is required of us. See counselling.
