Q&A › Character & conduct between spouses

🤍 Character & conduct between spouses · #333

What does putting the right first mean in daily practice, and how do we make it a habit?

The Prophet ﷺ liked to start with the right in honourable things such as eating, drinking, dressing and purifying himself. Getting used to the right hand for eating, giving and receiving is a manner that is easy to bring alive every day. Teach your children to use their right hand when eating and shaking hands, gently and with praise, not with scolding. Put the right foot first, too, when putting on shoes and entering the mosque. Small things like this train us to be orderly and to follow the Prophet's ﷺ example in daily life. Start with one practice, and add more once it has become a habit. See everyday adab.
