May I give gifts to and receive gifts from non-Muslim relatives?

Giving and receiving gifts with non-Muslim relatives is permitted and in fact strengthens affection and opens hearts. The Prophet ﷺ accepted gifts from non-Muslims, so there is no need to feel awkward. Choose gifts that do not go against the Shariah, such as halal food, useful items or flowers, and avoid things linked to the rituals of other religions or that are haram, such as alcohol. If you receive a gift you cannot use, accept it politely and deal with it later without embarrassing the giver. Gifts on ordinary days, not only at their festivals, avoid misunderstandings. See interfaith.
