🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #79

Does reading books with a young child really help their development?

Reading together with a young child is one of the most beneficial things you can do for their language, attention and your bond. Choose simple, age-appropriate picture books, and read in a lively voice so that they get excited. Let them turn the pages and point at the pictures; it is fine if you do not finish reading. Make it part of the routine, such as one story before bed. Include books about the prophets and good character to sow values early on. Repeat their favourite book even dozens of times, because repetition is how they learn. Set this time aside without phone distractions. See educating the family.
