Should our problem be taken to a counsellor, an ustaz, or a doctor?

Choose according to the kind of problem, and sometimes you need several specialists at once. Problems of communication, emotions and the relationship are suited to a family counsellor. Questions of religious rulings, such as whether a talaq is valid or rights in the rota (turn of nights), are referred to a knowledgeable ustaz or the state mufti's office. Health symptoms such as prolonged stress, depression or sleep problems are referred to a doctor. The three do not conflict; a spouse can get counselling while receiving medical treatment and asking religious questions. Start by naming your main problem, then choose the specialist closest to it. Do not force one party to solve everything. See counselling.
