🧒 Raising children (tarbiyah) · #63
Is it wrong for parents to share photos and stories of their children on social media?
Sharing occasionally and carefully is not wrong, but children also have dignity and privacy; avoid photos that embarrass them, expose their aurat or reveal their location.
Allah forbids seeking out and exposing people's faults (al-Hujurat 49:12), and children are part of the trust that must be guarded (Sahih al-Bukhari 893). Photos of a child crying, being scolded, bathing, or in a school uniform showing their name and school can be misused by predators, or become material for mockery when the child grows up. Guidelines: keep a private account for family only, turn off location data, do not share full names and dates of birth, and ask older children whether they agree. Do not turn a child into content for money or views without thinking of the consequences. See Digital life & the family.
