Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #81

My family is pressing me to remarry when I am not ready. Is it a sin for me to refuse?

It is not a sin to refuse or postpone remarriage; the decision is yours, not anyone else's. Your family may mean well, but they are not the ones who will bear the consequences of a decision you are not comfortable with. Listen to their views respectfully, then state your position calmly and firmly. If their reason is worry about maintenance or care of the children, share your plans to put their minds at ease. There is no compulsory time to remarry after your iddah ends; you can wait until you are truly ready. If the pressure continues, ask a respected person to act as go-between. See widow.
