Q&A › Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk

🚪 Divorce, ʿiddah & rujuk · #79

As a widow, I am torn between wanting to remarry and worrying about my children's feelings. What should I do?

Remarrying is your right and can be a good thing, as long as it is done with consideration and does not neglect the children's rights. No one has the right to force you to marry or to forbid you, but choosing a good man who will be loving towards the children is very important. Talk with your children according to their age, listen to their worries, and reassure them that your love for them has not lessened. Do not rush out of loneliness alone; get to know the candidate carefully. For questions of iddah, custody of the children or property, refer to the religious affairs office or the Syariah Court. Istikharah and prayer help settle the decision. See widow.
