Q&A › Polygyny: rulings & justice

⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #87

Honestly, my urge to practise polygyny is only desire. Is that a right reason?

Desire is natural, but making it the only driver, without readiness to be just and responsible, is a fragile foundation. Polygyny in Islam is bound to justice and maintenance (nafkah), not just satisfying a want. Ask yourself: are you ready to carry a fair rota, maintenance and treatment for life, or are you just chasing something new? Guard yourself from what is forbidden by lowering your gaze and drawing closer to your wife. If this desire troubles you, fast and increase your worship as recommended. A mature intention balances desire with responsibility, rather than letting desire drive a major decision. See critical wisdom.
