⚖️ Polygyny: rulings & justice · #84

Honestly, I am not sure I can be just. Should I still practise polygyny?

If you yourself fear you cannot be just, the religion points to the safer path, which is to be content with one wife. Allah says: “if you fear that you will not be just, then (marry) only one” (Surah an-Nisa' 4:3). This honest doubt is a mercy, not a weakness, because it saves you from injustice and two families from pain. Justice here covers the rota, maintenance (nafkah) and treatment, not just money. Do not force yourself because of the push of desire or of other people. Being content with one wife is not a shortcoming; it is in fact closer to the tranquillity Allah asks of us.
