If we decide to separate after infidelity, how do we do it with kindness (ihsan)?

Even when separation comes from the wound of betrayal, Islam still requires it to be done in a good way, not with revenge. The Qur'an mentions the option of “releasing with kindness” (Surah al-Baqarah 2:229) as an honourable path. In practice, this means fulfilling each other's rights, guarding your tongue from speaking ill, and not using the children as a tool of revenge. Handle maintenance (nafkah), iddah and the children's rights through a sulh officer or the Syariah Court so that it is fair and orderly. Separating with kindness protects both sides' dignity and makes it easier for the children to move on. Get emotional support from a counsellor throughout this transition. See trials in a marriage.
